ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Monday, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office announced new developments in two separate cases involving sexual
crimes.
The first was in regards to a case in Holland. The Sheriff’s Office announced that 38-year-old Chad Nicholas Overbeek has been sentenced on the following charges:
- Capturing/Distributing Image of Unclothed Person
- Using a Computer to Commit a Crime
Police say Overbeek had previously been arrested on August 17, 2020. A roommate of Overbeek’s located a hidden night light camera in the shared bathroom of the residence.
A search was conducted and additional digital evidence was seized, along with an interview that was conducted on scene.
Search Warrants for Cloud data were executed that substantiated the investigation, and charges were authorized by the Allegan County Prosecutors Office.
Overbeek was sentenced for these charges on April 19, 2021.
His penalty was not provided by police, but WOOD TV reported that Overbeek was sentenced to five years of probation.
However, there was an additional case reported by the Sheriff’s Office Monday, which took place in Plainwell.
Officials reported that an investigation had been conducted regarding Possession/Manufacture of Child Sexual Abusive Material (CSAM), which began in February.
Police had received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that known CSAM was being uploaded to the internet.
The investigation lead to a female subject identified as Allie May Teed, 27, from Plainwell, MI. Search warrants were obtained for the residence and digital evidence was seized, while Teed was interviewed on scene.
Criminal charges have been authorized by the Allegan County Prosecutors Office and include the following:
- 4 counts of Possession of CSAM,
- 4 counts of Distribution of CSAM and
- 4 Counts of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime.
Police say Teed was arrested on April 15 and arraigned on April 29.
As a result of these cases, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office is now encouraging parents to speak to their children about safe use of the internet.
