BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A longtime staple for grocery shopping in downtown Battle Creek is getting ready to make a big move, one that has been speculated for years. The owners of Horrock’s Market say they will be taking up shop in the former J.C. Penney location at Lakeview Square Mall.
The plans were confirmed to Battle Creek city officials on Wednesday, who call the move bittersweet. The downtown area will be losing some life while the mall, which desperately needs some, will get a boost. J.C. Penney closed in 2017 and the mall has lacked an anchor store since Sears closed two years later.
Ironically, when Horrock’s opened on Capital Ave. in 1992, it was at the spot where a Sears store had been for years before it moved to Lakeview Square Mall.
