PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Coldwater Cardinals were swept by state-ranked Portage Central on Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader by scores of 14-4 and 8-3 on the Mustangs home diamond.
The Mustangs used a pair of big innings in the first game as it was shortened to five innings because of the mercy rule. They scored five runs in the second and four more in the fourth. Carter Bordner had a two-run single for the Cardinals while Brynden Massey had an RBI double and Nate Tappenden delivered an RBI triple.
The Cardinals had a 3-2 lead in the second game before the Mustangs took the lead for good by scoring three runs in the last of the fourth. Tyson Roby had an RBI single. The other Cardinal runs were scored on an error and a passed ball.
