GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Local doctors are excited by the news from Pfizer that their COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective for kids ages 5 to 11. Doctor Andrew Jameson, with Mercy Health Saint Mary’s in Grand Rapids, says kids are making up almost 30-percent of all new cases in the country.
“They’re infecting people in their lives, they’re infecting teachers and other adults in their families. They are really helping drive this forward.”
Jameson and other West Michigan doctors feel that the vaccine may get Emergency Use Authorization by the FDA soon with Pfizer’s recent announcement. If the federal government approves of its use soon, shots could start going into the arms of young kids at the end of next month or early November.
