PAW PAW, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man accused of hiding a body after a fatal hit-and-run crash this week in Van Buren County has been arraigned on several charges.
29-year-old Colby Martin of White Pigeon is charged with the death and cover-up of 64-year-old Melody Rohrer. She was reported missing after not returning home from a morning jog Monday in Hamilton Township.
Investigators say after Martin struck her with his vehicle, he then took the woman’s body to a wooded area in St. Joseph County in an apparent attempt to hide it. After being quickly identified, he admitted to the crime and told detectives where the body was located.
His next court date is October 6th and he could spend up to 35 years in prison. Police records show that Martin had a previous drunk driving conviction in 2011, but there are no reports about whether or not he was intoxicated when the fatal crash happened earlier this week.
