KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A large crash involving multiple vehicles temporarily shut down all lanes of US-131 near Stadium Drive in Oshtemo Township Wednesday morning.
According to a report from the Michigan State Police (MSP), the crash occurred at 5:45 a.m. on Southbound 131 north of Stadium Drive.
Police say a 42-year-old man from Grand Rapids in a Chevy pickup was traveling southbound when control of the vehicle was lost.
The driver crossed the median, flipped over a guardrail and entered into the northbound 131 lanes.
A Dodge SUV then struck the pickup, trapping and injuring the driver. The pickup driver had to be extricated.
There were two occupants of the SUV, one of which was injured.
All those with injuries were transferred to a hospital, but police said they weren’t life-threatening.
Five additional crashes occurred as a result of this incident. All lanes were reopened just before 9 a.m.
Police added that the roads were icy at the time of these crashes, and that drivers need to remember to adjust driving habits accordingly at this time of year.
This is only the latest series of crashes to occur on US-131 in the Kalamazoo area. Two separate crashes occurred on Tuesday, with one incident claiming the life of a driver.
