BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Three Battle Creek area schools went into lockdown following a nearby shooting Monday morning, May 2.
Dudley STEM, Battle Creek Academy, and Northwestern Middle school were placed on lockdown for 30 minutes as police responded to the 200 block of Jordan Street at 10:37 a.m. on a report of shots fired.
On scene, they found two men in their 20’s had arrived at their stepfather’s home where all three had a dispute.
Authorities say the stepfather and one of the stepsons pulled a handgun and started shooting at each other.
Police arrested both the 20-year-old stepson and the 47-year-old stepfather on charges of assault with intent to commit murder. Neither were shot, and both were taken to the Calhoun County jail.
The three schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution while police investigated.
