CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The power is going to remain off for another day or two for some Consumers Energy customers in Calhoun and Kalamazoo Counties.
The utility reported Wednesday morning that as of 7:00 a.m., there were still about 51,000 customers system wide without power after the severe Monday afternoon storms that featured winds of almost 70 MPH sent nearly 175,000 customers into the dark.
The outages reported on Wednesday morning include over 10,000 customers in Calhoun County and another 3,800 customers in Kalamazoo County.
Consumers says they are on track to meet their goal of returning power to most of the remaining impacted customers by the end of the day Wednesday. Some work will continue into Thursday in communities most badly damaged by this week’s high winds.
The outage page on the Consumers web site indicates there are some people that won’t get their power back until Friday.
To support customers affected by the storm, Consumers Energy is providing free ice cream to Battle Creek residents from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Station 66 which is located at 4588 D Drive South.
