BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – In State House races in Calhoun County, a pair of incumbents won in redrawn districts in Tuesday’s general election. Democrat Jim Haadsma won in the new 44th District and Republican Sarah Lightner won in the 45th.
In local State Senate races, Republican Thomas Albert beat Democrat Kai DeGraaf in the 18th District and Republican Jonathan Lindsay has won the 17th District seat.
In Battle Creek city races, incumbent Mayor Mark Behnke has won reelection, despite a strong challenge from Lynn Ward Grey.
Carla Reynolds, Jake Smith and Sherry Sofia won at large seats on the commission. Roger Ballard edged out his opponent in the First Ward. Jenasia Morris was an easy winner in the 2nd. Patrick O’Donnell won by over 100 votes in the 3rd Ward. Christopher Simmons won a three way race in the 4th Ward, and Jim Lance was unopposed in the 5th Ward.
Voters in the Marshall School District defeated a sinking fund millage proposal, and voters in Burlington Township approved a library millage request.
