KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A former Kalamazoo pastor was sentenced on Monday, January 30 for allegedly paying teenage boys to engage in sex acts with his wife.
Stricjavvar “Strick” Strickland is set to serve one year in the Kalamazoo County Jail after pleading guilty to one felony count of transportation services for engaging in prostitution. A judge ordered Strickland to begin his sentence on Monday and granted him one day time served.
The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office said as a part of the plea deal, Strickland will not have to register as a sex offender or be placed probation following his one year Jail sentence.
He was charged with 11 felony counts involving child sexual assault and human trafficking in August of 2020, ten of them which were dismissed.
His sentencing was postponed to January 30 in December after his defense team said his house burned down on Thanksgiving. His family had been living in Mississippi, where Strickland is originally from.
His sentencing was initially set for October 31.
Strickland’s wife, Jazmonique, did have eight felony charges against her as well, but those charges were dismissed by a Kalamazoo County judge during a preliminary hearing in May of 2021.
