PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) -A longtime area business professional and former board member has been selected as the newest member of the Portage Public Schools Board of Education.
At their meeting Monday night, the board selected Keith Crowell to serve the remainder of the term left open when former trustee Kurt Droppers retired from the Board last month. He will serve out the remainder of the term ending on December 31, 2024.
Crowell was previously appointed in January 2021 to serve the remainder of the term left open with the passing of Trustee Joanne Willson on December 9, 2020.
Crowell was one of 11 candidates who applied to fill the vacancy. One candidate withdrew from the running prior to Monday’s meeting.
Crowell is a Portage resident with a career in nonprofit leadership, including serving as Executive Director of the Air Zoo Legacy Foundation and Director of Development for the Air Zoo. Additionally, Crowell served as CEO of the Home Builders Association of Western Michigan, President of the Michigan Home Builders Association Executive Council, and Chief Communications and Development Officer for Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, Michigan.
He has four children who are graduates of Portage Public Schools. He is also a member of the Portage Education Association Board.
Crowell will take the Oath of Office at the board’s February 27, 2023 Organizational Meeting.
