BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Battle Creek Police say a person of interest in the homicide of Arely Hernandez was arrested on Saturday in Georgia.
Battle Creek Police and the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office are coordinating with local agencies in Georgia to have the subject extradited back to Calhoun County.
Hernandez’s murder took place in the area of Golden Avenue and Riverside Drive during the early morning hours of June 17.
At about 1:20 a.m. that morning, officers heard gunshots in the area, and discovered a car in the tree line at the edge of Riverside Park, at Golden.
When officers approached the car, they found Hernandez inside with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of the Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
