KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It may seem like West Michigan has escaped the impact of global warming, but local activists claim that isn’t the case.
Right now they are broiling in triple digits in the United State Southwest, dealing with flooding in the south and northeast, and dodging tornadoes in the Midwest.
Western Michigan University professor Allen Webb with the Climate Crisis Coalition says our dry spring, a local gypsy moth infestation, and the smoke from Canadian wildfires are all the result of a warming planet.
He says there are other examples as well.
Thursday evening about two dozen activists marched from Kalamazoo City Hall to Bronson Hospital to call for local governments to do more to enact sustainable practices, and encourage the rest of us to do the same.
