LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – 13 people, including one from Kalamazoo, have been appointed by Governor Whitmer to the state’s new LGBTQ+ Commission.
The governor created the commission with an executive order signed June 11 in Detroit to advise her office and the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity on policy matters affecting them.
Erin Knott, the Executive Director of the Kalamazoo-based Equality Michigan, was one of those selected for the new commission. She said Thursday “I look forward to being a voice for LGBTQ+ Michiganders on this statewide commission among an incredibly diverse group of people, who’s collective experience will be crucial as we continue to advance LGBTQ+ rights in our state.”
Raul Hernandez Guzman was appointed as the first administrator of the commission. The terms will run through November 29, 2027.
