DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed 23 bills into law that expand voting rights in the state, including allowing 16 and 17-year-olds to pre-register to vote so they are in the system when they turn 18.
The new laws also address misinformation and artificial intelligence.
Whitmer signed the bills at the NAACP Detroit Branch due to the organization’s involvement in being on the front line of the fight for better voting rights.
NAACP Detroit Branch president Reverend Wendell Anthony says people need to turn up to vote “like their lives depended on it because they do.”
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson says the new laws criminalize the use deep fakes in campaign advertising.
