KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo city officials have approved a resolution calling for a cease fire in the Israeli Hamas war, after weeks of demands that they take a stand.
They join several other Michigan towns and 25 state lawmakers calling on the Biden administration to use its considerable diplomatic influence to make it happen.
The resolution, titled a Stand for Human Values, cited the deaths in both Israel and Gaza and the prospects of even more lethal consequences if humanitarian efforts are not immediately stepped up.
City Commissioner Don Cooney dismissed the belief that such resolutions carry no weight that its like throwing a stone in a pond.
Well over a dozen residents spoke in favor of the resolution, some of them pro-Palestinian, some of them pro-Israel, but most of them right in the middle.
The calls for local action started soon after the shooting began.
A cease fire won’t solve the real problems and challenges the region faces, but opponents say finding a solution can’t begin until the shooting and bombing stops.
