BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners approved the appointment of Doctor Patrick A. Hansma as the Calhoun County Medical Examiner on Thursday.
He will take over for Doctor Joyce L. deJong who has accepted a new position as Dean of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Doctor Hansma has been serving as Deputy Medical Examiner.
His appointment is effective on January 1, 2024.
Doctor deJong pointed out in her resignation letter that she was the only member of the Pathology Department at the WMU Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine when it was launched formally in 2014.
She says it now houses the Medical Examiner’s Office for 12 counties and extends forensic pathology services to several others, including areas in Northern Indiana.
