KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) -Widespread, heavy snow and a sharp drop in temperatures have caused schools across the region to cancel classes for Thursday.
Most all schools in Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Allegan, and Van Buren made the decision to close schools by early Wednesday evening.
Lake-effect snow along with steady winds near 20 mph and gusts of 30 to 50 mph are expected create whiteout conditions at times. Those winds will help the snow skip the lakeshore and accumulate further inland.
A Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service remains in effect through 1:00 a.m. Friday.
