I came to the conclusion the other evening that with all the true crime shows I have been watching; I need a security system for my apartment.
I always felt safe when I had my dog Olive, (she was little, but she was fierce)! Since her passing a few years ago, I tend to get jumpy when I hear a strange sound. I double check locks, but living alone I think I need a tad more.
To make sure I wasn’t just a nervous nellie, I checked out some facts! Let me first say that every article I read had a similar statement, ‘Alarm systems help deter crime’.
Okay, good start. I do not like crime, so I am in!
Then I discovered at Consume Affairs.com, 72% of homeowners in the U.S. have some form of security system. So, I am not as nutty as I sometimes feel about protecting myself (relief).
I started the hunt for a system. I found out from SafeHome.org 42% of U.S. homeowners use video surveillance.
Technology is very hard for this girl, but for self-preservation I will try video!
Things were on track until they weren’t. A video surveillance system runs from $280 to $1,150. My jaw dropped, way outta my price range.
Never fear through, I did get my own security system.
It took some thought but, I remembered something I heard on TV once. If you put a man’s work boots out side your door. Criminals won’t think you live alone, and now you have deterred them.
The good news is that it’s practically free, but there is a down side. The “system” is not the most conventional or high tech. It could never help the cops with a police investigation.
What it does do is, on dark night alone, watching one of my true documentaries I can cuddle up, feel a little safer and not contemplate putting a knife next to my bed.
Yet, I must confess I do keep an air horn on my night stand.
Here’s to Sweet Dreams with no fear someone lurking in the dark corners of your mind. Stay Safe!
