GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — The break-up of a drug operation in Benton Harbor and Grand Rapids over the weekend has resulted in 18 arrests.
It has also resulted in the seizure of $1 million, 30 kilograms of heroin and cocaine, several pounds of marijuana, a bulletproof vest, four handguns and an assault rifle.
Following a raid, one suspect is in critical condition with a gunshot wound.
Four other suspects remain at large. They are Demetrius Gaines, Retisha Pegram, Brandon Parks, and Etrevion Murphy.
DEA agents and the Kent County Tactical Unit executed warrants at the Burton’s Landing Apartment Complex in Grand Rapids at about 4 a.m. Sunday. The drugs were reportedly smuggled aboard a tractor trailer that drove to west Michigan from California.
The deputy who shot one of the suspects has been put on administrative leave while a routine shooting review is conducted.
The suspects could face 20 years to life in prison if convicted on the federal counts.
