HOMER, MI (WTVB) – A high speed pursuit that went through three counties ended south of Homer Wednesday morning with the apprehension of a suspect who was wanted out of Kalamazoo County.
At least two and perhaps as many as four Michigan State Police units were damaged during the pursuit which started in Calhoun County.
It all started at a Marshall motel where State Police were dispatched for an unresponsive man.
When troopers got there, they found out the man had fled from medical personnel.
The pursuit went south from Marshall and exited I-69 at the 23 mile marker. It went into southern Calhoun County before heading south into Branch County. It eventually reached Jonesville Road before heading east into Hillsdale County.
It was thought a bridge being out would end the chase but the suspect managed to escape by driving through a bean field and onto a pedestrian bridge.
The chase reached speeds of nearly 100 miles an hour as it went through Jonesville, the north side of Hillsdale and west on U.S. 12 to the Allen area.
The chase then went north on M-49 out of Allen. It then got onto M-99 heading north out of Litchfield before it ended at County Line Road when the suspects vehicle crashed into a field.
The suspect tried to make a run for it but he was captured by a K-9 unit just before 11:00 a.m.
Michigan State Police say the 30-year-old Kalamazoo man was lodged in the Hillsdale County Jail.
Troopers say he was wanted on a Kalamazoo County warrant for fleeing and eluding as well as a probation violation. His name can not be released until after he has been arraigned on the pending charges.
Sheriff Departments from Calhoun, Branch and Hillsdale Counties and State Police from the Jackson Post were among the police agencies assisting the State Police from Marshall.
