KALMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — There will soon be a new alert system in Kalamazoo for all the things that can go wrong that aren’t already covered by their own alert systems.
There is an amber alert when a child is missing, a silver alert for a missing senior and a blue alert when a first responder has been assaulted.
The new Red Alert was adopted by the state after the mass murders in Kalamazoo last year to warn the public of an active shooter.
Next week, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller plans to announce the “Community Alert System,” which will be employed to quickly get word out to schools, hospitals, large businesses and the public through various media about other threats to the community, or situations they need to know about.
Fuller says it will be funded for five years by a non-profit called the Kalamazoo Mortgage Hero Salute.
