PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM/FM) – One day after the Mustangs’ girls varsity and boys JV teams entered a 10-day quarantine due to positive COVID-19 cases, Portage Central’s boys varsity and girls junior varsity basketball teams have entered a 10-day quarantine, after a person from each squad tested positive for COVID-19.
School officials say for each of the four teams, the person who tested positive last had contact with the rest of his or her team Saturday, meaning all quarantine periods will last until Monday, March 1.
According to Athletic Director Joe Wallace, Portage Central’s girls varsity basketball team canceled Tuesday’s game against Battle Creek Central, after the player tested positive early Tuesday, but the positive COVID-19 case on the boys varsity team wasn’t reported until Tuesday night, which is why the Mustangs played their scheduled game at Battle Creek Central Tuesday.
A positive COVID-19 test caused the Portage Central girls volleyball team to forfeit their state quarterfinal match against Lowell in January.
