UNDATED (WKZO-AM/FM) — A number of human rights groups, the American Federation of Teachers and Western Michigan University are calling on the Trump Administration and Gov. Rick Snyder to use their relationship with the Saudi Arabian government to prevent the beheading of a student who had been accepted to the school in Kalamazoo.
His crime was attending a protest. He was arrested just as he was preparing to leave the country for Michigan.
Human rights groups claim the protesters were tortured into confessing. Four others have already been executed for similar activities.
They report the protestor with WMU ties was just 17 when he was detained at the King Fahd International Airport in 2012 and has just been moved with 14 others to the detention center where executions take place.
It had initially been reported that he planned to attend the University of Michigan, but they could find no record of his application in Ann Arbor.
WMU spokesperson Cheryl Roland tells the Detroit Free Press that they just learned of the situation and had no idea of the reason why the teen failed to enroll that fall. She says they have joined the AFT and a number of human rights groups calling on the White House to intervene.
