MARSHALL, MI (WTVB)- The Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office has decided not to file formal charges against a Coldwater man, after perceived threats led to a precautionary lockdown of the Hillsdale College campus Wednesday.
An officer at the Calhoun County Jail said Friday that 28-year-old Michael Philip LaFountain was no longer in their facility.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement after the incident that there were allegations a nine millimeter semi-automatic handgun had been stolen from the 17000 block of T Drive South in Tekonsha Township late Wednesday morning and that the suspect was possibly suicidal.
LaFountain used to be a student at Hillsdale College and officials at the college said the lockdown took place after they got information from a credible third party in regards to a potential threat from a former student.
LaFountain was stopped by Coldwater Police on Bishop Avenue near Grand Street, but no weapons were found, and according to the last statement from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, a firearm has not been located.
