COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A man who authorities say used computers and electronic devices to commit sex crimes was sentenced on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
38 year old Matthew Collins was ordered to serve 58 months to 15 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections after entering a guilty plea to a charge of being in possession of child sexually abusive material as a fourth time habitual offender.
The time will be served consecutive to a theft case out of Ingham County.
Collins was on parole at the time of his arrest in July 2016.
All other charges against Collins that were filed last July were dismissed in exchange for the guilty plea.
The case was investigated by the Michigan State Police. It started in September 2015 when they found Collins with a 16-year-old runaway at a Coldwater motel.
