MARSHALL (WKZO AM/FM) — A series of Gothic novels inspired by a home in the Town of Marshall have spun off a major motion picture, filled with magic, comedy, frights and all the special effects that movie-makers can conjure up these days.
Thursday night the Bogar Theatre in Marshall literally put out a red carpet for the Michigan premiere of the “The House with a Clock in the Walls”
It’s based on a book published in 1973 by Marshall native John Bellairs who imagined an off-kilter version of his hometown as the background for the stories.
The inspiration for the movie was the Jeremiah Cronin House, which has floating staircases and some unusual woodwork, but few of the mind-bending amenities of the house in the film, and as far as anybody knows, no clock in the walls.
The film starring Jack Black and Cate Blanchett arrives in theaters in the rest of the country Friday.
