BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN) – 29 low- to moderate-income Calhoun County residents will receive a combined $238,918 in home improvement grants.
The money comes from Neighborhoods Inc. of Battle Creek, and CEO Nancy Walker says the grants were made available through NIBC’s membership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis. Up to $1 million in grants were available for low- to moderate-income residents to help homeowners rehabilitate or make accessibility improvements to their homes, or help first-time homeowners pay closing costs or a down payment.
Grants ranged from $4,000 to $15,000 and can be used to repair a home, make it more accessible for the elderly or a person with disabilities, or help cover a down payment or closing costs on a new home.
Further funding will be available next spring.
