FORT WAYNE, MI (WTVB) – A motorcyclist from Avilla, Indiana has died from his injuries following a Friday afternoon accident on southbound I-69 near Pearl Road in Ovid Township.
52-year-old Robert Kimmel past away at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was flown there after first being taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.
Witnesses told Branch County Sheriff’s Deputies that Kimmel lost control while pulling a motorcycle trailer. He then rolled over several times and was found unconscious by rescue crews who responded to the accident.
Deputies determined Kimmel was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash which forced a shutdown of southbound I-69 for over an hour.
Traffic had to be detoured between the Fenn Road and Kinderhook exits.
The accident remains under investigation by the Branch County Sheriff’s Department.
