KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s a sign of progress but Downtown Kalamazoo will be seeing a lot of road construction, this summer and other infrastructure improvements that could make it a challenge for motorists.
The City and Consumers Energy officials briefed downtown property owners Thursday night.
Utilities Director James Baker says the City will be replacing all the plumbing and sewer lines under Rose St. at Michigan Avenue and rebuilding Pitcher in the Central business district.
MDOT plans to resurface Park and Westnedge from Michigan Avenue to the city’s northern border and make repairs to the Michigan Avenue Bridge over the Kalamazoo River for a couple of months.
Some projects begin in April and will end in August, the River Bridge project will begin in August and end in October.
Consumers Energy also plans to replace 100 year old cast iron gas lines with plastic on over 20 downtown Streets, but will be working mostly in the curb-lawns
