WEST MICHIGAN (WKZO AM/FM) — Many drivers heading home from their Thanksgiving destinations may have came across some slick conditions and heavy backups around West Michigan.
Areas around Grand Rapids and farther north kicked off the new month with several inches of snow. In fact, forecasters say Grand Rapids received more snow in the first few hours of December than in the entire month of December last year.
Many northern residents suffered scattered outages due to the storm. Consumers Energy’s outage map can be found here.
Southwest Michigan didn’t have snow to deal with but still had some traffic issues.
In Emmett Township, Westbound I-94 near Beadle Lake Road was shut down for several hours Sunday evening due to a crash involving eight vehicles and a semi truck.
Traffic reopened around 7:30 p.m. and officers say there were no major injuries, but several people were taken to the hospital.
