LANSING MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Michigan Supreme Court will hear a request from a redistricting commission regarding the upcoming deadlines to re-draw Michigan’s Congressional Districts.
The commission is required by law to have the new maps completed by November 1st, but is asking for an extension because of a delay in getting census data.
Commission members say that the necessary information won’t be available until September 30th, which doesn’t give them enough time to properly complete the task at hand.
At least two justices have indicated that they are not in favor of changing deadline dates that were approved by voters.
