COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency is looking at changing enforcement policies when it comes to food service.
Director of Environmental Health Food Service Sanitation Director Paul Andriacchi told the agency’s Board of Health Thursday that they have encountered a number of facilities over the last six months that have had an infestation of insects, specifically roaches, which has required the closure of the facility until the infestation has been eliminated.
He added that in a couple of situations, it was not a first time occurrence.
Andriacchi says they are taking a look at their enforcement policy to see if they can come up with some stronger regulations for facilities that have infestation problems.
One option being explored is to modify the enforcement policy to trigger an immediate move to the enforcement protocol for any infestation.
If that happens then monthly inspections would be required for three straight months following the discovery of the infestation.
Andriacchi feels this would give them a better picture of the overall effectiveness of pest management in a facility.
