ATLANTA, GA (WTVB) – The Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers wrapped up Week One of the 2015 season with wins as part of a “Monday Night Football” doubleheader. In the opener, the Falcons built a 20-3 lead and held on for a 26-24 win over the Eagles in Atlanta.
In the nightcap, the 49ers ran over the Minnesota Vikings, 20-3 in San Francisco. Week Two opens with the Chiefs hosting the Denver Broncos in Kansas City Thursday night.
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell said Detroit’s 33-28 loss in San Diego Sunday shows the team is not consistent enough on either side of the ball. In his news conference yesterday, Caldwell also said they have some problems to fix before this weekend’s match up at Minnesota.
Caldwell did not give an update on a hit to the elbow quarterback Matthew Stafford suffered early in the third quarter or late game injuries to cornerback Darius Slay and tight end Brandon Pettigrew. Stafford stayed in the game, finishing 19-of-30 for 246 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Both Slay and Pettigrew left the field and did not return.
The NFL won’t take action against Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. The former Detroit Lion all-pro knocked off the helmet of Redskins running back Alfred Morris following a tackle in Sunday’s season opener. Suh’s leg made contact with Morris’ helmet and dislodged it, but the league determined it was not a kicking motion.
Suh, who was making his Dolphins debut, lost $420,000 in fines and suspensions for on-field incidents since being drafted by Detroit second overall in the 2010 NFL draft.
