ROLAND GARROS, FRANCE (WTVB) – Serena Williams rallied past Yulia Putintseva 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 in a surprisingly difficult quarterfinal match at the French Open. Williams, seeking a record-equaling 22nd Grand Slam title, will face another unseeded opponent, 58th-ranked Kiki Bertens, in the semifinals. Samantha Stosur takes on Garbine Muguruza in the other women’s semi.
On the men’s side, Novak Djokovic beat Tomas Berdych in straight sets to reach the semifinals for a record sixth consecutive year, and he’ll be on the court for the fourth straight day Friday at the rain-plagued tournament. He’ll face No. 13 Dominic Thiem. The other semifinal pits No. 2 Andy Murray against defending champion and No. 3 seed Stanislas Wawrinka.
