COOPER TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two people are in custody after a high speed chase in Kalamazoo County Monday afternoon.
According to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, while following up on a previous investigation around 3:45 p.m. Monday, deputies observed a vehicle with expired plates leaving a residence in Cooper Township. A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle in the area of Riverview Drive and East E Avenue. The driver
fled north bound on Riverview Drive, reaching speeds of 80-85 mph.
Eventually deputies terminated their chase after losing sight of the vehicle in the area of East C Avenue and 27th Street due to poor road conditions.
Several minutes later deputies responded to the area of the 6000 block of East D Avenue as a homeowner reported the vehicle was abandoned in the yard and that three subjects were running from it. A KCSO K-9 responded as well as deputies and Richland Police Department.
During the search all three individuals were located and detained. The driver and a passenger were transported and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on various charges. The driver is a 42-year-old from Kalamazoo, with the passenger a 36-year-old, also from Kalamazoo.
