COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A teenage girl from Coldwater is expected to face charges in Branch County of a false report of kidnapping following an incident this week. Michigan State Police responded Monday afternoon to the area of Sanford and Stickney Roads in Coldwater Township to check out a report that a female had been abducted and dropped off in a cornfield.
The reported 18-year old victim called Central Dispatch around 2 pm and said she’d been kidnapped and blindfolded with her hands bound behind her back. She told them she was able to use her cell phone to alert authorities after the alleged suspect had ran off.
Following a search, troopers said they found the female about 20 minutes later, bound and blindfolded approximately 150 yards off the roadway. The area was secured for investigation and then the girl was taken to the Coldwater post for an interview where she confessed to fabricating the story due to some personal issues, reportedly an argument with her boyfriend.
State Police were assisted by deputies from the Branch County Sheriff’s Department.
