KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A winter storm that brought freezing rain, sleet, and snow has knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses around the state.
As of 4:00 a.m. Thursday, more than 186,000 Consumers Energy customers around the state were without power. Kalamazoo and Jackson counties had the largest numbers of outages.
The total number of customers without power, by county, posted by Consumers Energy Thursday morning:
Kalamazoo County: 42,187
Allegan County: 3,652
Barry County: 2,488
Branch County: 5,620
Calhoun County: 22,295
Ottawa County: 295
St. Joseph County: 456
Van Buren County: 6,059
According to the Indiana Michigan Power outage map, 5,338 customers in Kalamazoo County, 12,209 customers in St. Joseph County and 18,384 customers in Van Buren County were without power.
