KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Contrary to rumors, there will be no low-income housing going in at the site of a vacant school on Cobb Avenue on Kalamazoo’s Northside.
As we reported last week, a number of rumors spread through the neighborhood that Stone’s Church, the owners of the old school at Cobb and Paterson, planned to demolish it and build group housing for the homeless, even pods.
Pastor Joel Brooks says they don’t have any immediate plans, other than doing a better job of caring for the building which has been badly damaged by vandals.
Pastor Brooks’ wife, Yvonne says if they do come up with a plan, it will be for single family homes or senior housing, and they will let the community know all about it first.
The Church held a zoom meeting last night to clear up the rumors, and may schedule a public meeting as well for those who don’t do Zoom.
