BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – After being closed for nearly 14 months due to a roof that leaked and partially collapsed, Station 4 for the Battle Creek Fire Department on 20th Street went back into around-the-clock service on Monday morning.
The station closed in January 2022 due to roof problems from rain and snow that led to leaks, partial roof collapses, and other water damage.
The station, which was built in 1947, now has a new roof, and a new drainage system to direct water away from the building.
Battle Creek Fire Chief Bill Beaty gave a tour of the repaired fire station in a video that was posted on the department’s Facebook page.
During its closure, Station 4 crews and vehicles were moved to Station 1 and Station 6 on Capital Avenue SW.
Station 4 became part of the city’s Fire Department when Battle Creek Township merged with the city in the early 1980s.
