KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Now that State Health officials have identified the pollution problem at Graphic Packaging, Kalamazoo City leaders are pledging to do what they can to fix it.
The report released last week shows that while contamination levels aren’t high enough to cause disease, they are high enough to cause problems for those with respiratory problems, like Asthma.
Commissioners agree this has to be a top priority going forward.
City Mayor David Anderson says improvements have been made and others are in the works, but they have to keep at it.
City Vice Mayor Don Cooney says it’s not just the chemicals, it’s the smell.
But Commissioner Chris Preadel says it’s a question for Graphic Packaging.
Several commissioners plan to attend the Thursday Town Hall, and will likely be among those in the crowd urging State and Federal Environmental Officials to take action. The session begins at 5:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
