ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A judge on Friday, June 16 sentenced an Allegan County man to decades in prison for abusing and killing his grandfather.
WWMT-TV reported on Saturday, June 17 that Cory Nethery received a sentence of 60 to 100 years and was charged with five crimes related to the death of 82-year-old William Fitzhugh, who died in December of 2021.
Fitzhugh was hospitalized with a broken hip, nose and ribs and a collapsed lung after being found by family members in his bedroom with severe injuries on October 18, 2021. Autopsy results revealed that he died from a combination of injuries, malnurishment and neglect.
Nethery was charged in February of 2022 with five crimes related to Fitzhugh’s death.
According to Allegan County Circuit Court records, he submitted a plea in April and was sentenced Friday on the charges of first degree vulnerable adult abuse and second degree murder.
Authorities say Fitzhugh’s other grandson, Christopher Fitzhugh is also charged in the murder.
