PORTAGE (WKZO) — Portage Fire Fighters responded at about 1:30 Saturday morning to an apartment fire at 6220 Independence.
There were reports of smoke pouring out of the townhouse.
They ran hose lines, and rushed in and put out the flames in found mainly in the basement of the townhouse unit.
They managed to keep it from spreading to nearby units, but everyone was evacuated as a precaution.
Management helped the 3 displaced families find temporary shelter and the Red Cross was on hand to lend assistance too.
They are still looking for the cause of the blaze. There were no injuries.
