NAZARETH, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A small post office in Kalamazoo County will keep a tradition of over 100 years alive, offering a Special Holiday Pictorial Postmark to customers from around the world.
In 1899, the Sisters of St. Joseph founded Nazareth, MI 49074. In its history, the Nazareth Post Office, located about five miles north of Kalamazoo, has had only six postmasters, four were nuns.
“We are proud of our long tradition in Nazareth,” said current Postmaster Terri Sootsman. “Cancellations have been requested from all around the United States and countries all over the world including France and Japan. We even notice repeat customers year after year. Last year we received more than 38,000 requests.”
“We’re ready to deliver another successful holiday season,” said Sootsman. “We’d love to see our local customers come into our retail lobby with their cards to get this unique pictorial cancellation.”
For customers unable to visit the Nazareth Post Office, to receive the special cancellation available through December 31, enclose stamped, addressed cards in a larger envelope, and mail to:
