KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A judge has sentenced two former youth counselors to 18 months probation after they pled no contest in March to involuntary manslaughter in the death of 16-year-old Cornelius Fredericks in Kalamazoo.
Fifty-year-old Michael Mosley and 30-year-old Zachary Solis, both from Battle Creek, were working at Lakeside Academy at the time and charges of second-degree child abuse were dropped in their plea deal.
Fredericks was being restrained for throwing a sandwich in late April and died two days later on May 1 of a heart attack at a Kalamazoo hospital.
Former Lakeside Academy nursing director Heather McLogan was sentenced to 18 months of probation in September, 2021.
