Allow me start off by saying, I have never been a fashionista. In fact, I still have clothes that I wore in high school and still sport them to this day.
Over the last few weeks I have been really torn up, I read an article that said ‘Skinny’ jeans have fallen out of fashion. I did not panic because I do love my ‘Boyfriend’ jeans (super comfy). No good. The article went to say that ‘Boyfriend’ jeans and, ‘Baggie’ jeans are also out of style. Okay, now I can freak out! Sweet Palamino what am I going to wear?!?!
Then it happened, I read about the latest Fashion Trend. In fact, Angelina Jolie was seen walking around wearing it in New York. What is it, a BATHROBE!!! I am not joking, fully dressed, carrying a bag, hair done and wearing sunglasses…. with a BATHROBE as a coat.
Vogue has endorsed the look as “the hot new fashion trend for the fall”. The New York Post called trend in “post-pandemic unpretentiousness”. The Post went on to say that “after the lock down, we all stopped caring so much and went for comfort”.
I have to say, I never got that comfortable during the pandemic. Comfortable or not, I manage to get dressed every day and every time I leave my house (and that is saying a lot).
Whatever, moving on…
Not sure the Bathrobe really is the “hot new trend”. Let’s look on back on styles that were viewed as the “hot new trend”, shall we…
Five Finger Shoes…remember those, they were like gloves for your feet. Each toe had its space. They always creeped me out when I saw someone wearing them. Not sure why they gave me the heebie-jeebies, they just do
Result – that” hot trend” that burnt out fast!
“Half-and-Half jacket.”…I think it just pretentious and silly. Wear the coat, don’t wear the coat, just decide.
Result – Went from a “hot trend” to a lukewarm trend.
Platform Shoes with a fish in the heel. It’s a fishy trend …I know we are dipping our toes back to the 70’s, but they were a thing. The cool guys in major cities would feed the fish and head out on a Saturday night for the club. I am not sure how I feel about them but, they did give me a chuckle!
Result – We all wonder how many fish were injured on the dance floor. After 15 minutes of fame, those shoes melted away like the Wicked Witch of the West.
The Velour Track Suit (the worst were the ones that had ‘Juicy” across the butt) …We saw Celebrities, from actors to rockstars, embraced the velour track suit; they sported the soft, crazy colored suits. Now, I should not be throwing stones, because I owned a red one. It’s okay, you can judge. My Smother tossed it out when I was visiting one time.
Result – This trend was “hot” and had a good 3-year run. That is why we should be concerned about the Bathrobe/coat trend.
Legs Warmers…Woman of all ages embraced this trend. Once only used by dancers, they became a staple in 80’s. Weather you were headed to the club, the gym, or a first date. Basically, anywhere and everywhere chicks wore them. I always thought they were a tad sweety over my jeans.
Result – I resented Jane Fonda because she looked so good in them, but not the point. Once again, the “hot trend” took a hold and swiftly crossed the country like a California wild fire.
Honorable “hot trends” …
- Jellies
- Male Jumpsuits
- Patchwork Peasant Skirts
- Shoulder Pads
- Stickers on Baseball Caps
- Platform Crocs
CONCLUSION
The hot trends are fun and if you can pull them off, go for it.
With all that said, I am not so concerned about my jean’s dilemma now. Plus, I did discover a sweet pair of denim bell bottom jeans but now, I am concerned about my shoe wear choices.
