KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is picking up national praise for easing racial tensions.
USA Today praised the police agency for evaluating officer effectiveness less on arrest counts or the number of tickets written and more on how they treat the people they serve.
“It was a nice nod for the men and women of (Kalamazoo) Public Safety,” Chief Jeff Hadley said.
He also said effective policing relies upon good relationships.
“Law enforcement often intersects communities and people often times at some of their worst moments,” Hadley said. “We have to understand that they’re looking for us to help and to help solve problems.”
The article cited a U.S. Department of Justice report, which applauded Hadley for Kalamazoo Public Safety’s overall direction.
