RICHLAND (WKZO-AM) We have gotten a rare glimpse into the recovery of one of the survivors of the bicycle tragedy last month in Kalamazoo.
Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Center in Grand Rapids posted the blog on their website, discussing the recovery of Paul Gobble who just recently returned to his home in Richland to continue what is expected to be an extended recovery process.
Gobble says he has no memory of the crash that killed five and injured him and three others. In fact he has no memory of that entire week.
The blog says he suffered a head injury, several spinal cord injuries and a broken leg.
He will be required to wear back and neck braces for a while, and undergo therapy as he continues to restore cognitive functions lost due to his brain injury.
He credits his recovery to the care he has gotten at Borgess Medical Center and Mary Free Bed.
He says he will recover and go back to work and even start cycling again, but he knows it will take time. He has already been back up on a bike as part of his physical therapy.
