BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Battle Creek Public Schools will lay off four teachers and five other staff members before the start of the next school year.
The decision was made unanimously by the Battle Creek Board of Education during its meeting Monday. Two of the educators are from Kellogg Elementary.
The district is wrestling with a $1.2 million deficit triggered by declining enrollment.
The dismissals will save about $850,000.
