COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two new economic developments will lead to 168 jobs in Coldwater. Mayor Tom Kramer announced on Wednesday that an expansion for Sport Truck USA will create 129 jobs while a new business recruitment, Schmitz Foam Products, plans to establish its North American headquarters in the Coldwater area which will lead to the creation of 39 jobs.
Sport Truck USA will be known as ST USA Holding Corporation and still be based in Coldwater. It’s an wholly owned subsidiary of Fox Factory, Incorporated. They make automotive suspension parts for off road and sport vehicles.
They plan to invest $6.3 million in a new manufacturing facility based in the former Plastic Tops building on Garfield Road. The project has been awarded a $555,000 performance-based grant from the Michigan Business Development Program. The City of Coldwater will support in the project with a property tax abatement.
Kramer says Coldwater beat out a competing site in North Carolina to land Schmitz Foam Products which specializes in re-working post industrial scrap of foam producers and converters. The scrap foam is used to create shock pads for sports fields, landfill covers and playgrounds.
The company plans to invest $9.1 million in the Coldwater operation. A $200,000 performance based grant has been awarded by the Michigan Business Development Program. The City of Coldwater is also supporting the project with a property tax abatement.
